We received our first challenge to our posting about The Chamber taking a stand earlier today.
Jeff at The Bahama Journal had this to say:
Maybe you should look at both sides before posting: at JonesBahamas.com
Having served as the Chairman of The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce Legislation Committee last year, the facts are that The Chamber submitted recommendations to The Ministry of Trade and Industry in August 2004. We can confirm we have had no written response from the Ministry regarding our suggestions or the reasons why they might have been rejected to date.
A meeting was held with the Minister and two officials of the Ministry, but there the communication ended.
Legislation is not a panacea, and there are usually unintended consequences. Accordingly it makes sense for any government official to seek consultation as no one can think of all the ramifications. Consultation does not mean dismissing people out of hand or personalising an issue!
